This time of year, I find we all get so wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Each year the to-do list seems to get longer, and the season seems to start earlier. The food shopping, the endless cooking, the gift-buying, the tree-trimming, the cleaning, and all the miscellaneous errands. We get stressed, we lose our patience, we lose sleep. With all of that going on, it's certainly easy to lose sight of the real reason for the holiday.
I think we should take some time to appreciate our family and friends, to enjoy the spirit of giving, to be thankful for all that we have, and to try to help out others who might be in need. Charity is definitely a part of our philosophy at The Media Message. Over the years, we have worked with many local, regional, and national non-profit organizations, including American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Community Action Agency of Delaware County, American Cancer Society, and Tug McGraw Foundation.
Recently, I helped coordinate the 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive at The Plumstead Inn. We collected frozen turkeys, canned goods, and other non-perishables over the past month, and just this past weekend, we delivered the donations to Nativity B.V.M. in Media. I was floored by the amount of donations we were able to secure. We wound up with about 700 lbs. of food, which included 21 turkeys.
It warmed my heart to see all the big smiles when we brought in the food. We were assured that the items were going to help feed a lot of people right here in our neighborhood this Thanksgiving. What a feeling it is to be a part of such an effort, knowing our small but mighty group could help out so many people in need right here in our hometown.
The Media Message wishes you and yours a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!
